Original description from The Cleveland Museum of Art (© Nwebiisinka - Ụlọ ihe ngosi nka nke Cleveland - Velọ ihe ngosi nka nke Cleveland)

This painting demonstrates Cox's ideas about the importance in art of tradition and the classical spirit. Two figures in Grecian costumes, representing the arts of the past, pass on the eternal flame of tradition to two figures in Renaissance dress. Literature wears the laurel crown, and Painting holds the palette. Born in Warren, Ohio, Cox studied art in Cincinnati and at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. In 1877, he moved to Paris to study under Carolus Duran (1838-1917) and Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904). Five years later, Cox returned to New York where he established himself as a leader in the academic and conservative movement known as the American Renaissance. The artist achieved particular fame as a muralist; however by 1916, his health deteriorating, he turned his attention to paintings on canvas.

The product dropdown menu gives you the opportunity to choose your individual size and material. You can pick your preferred size and material among the options:

  • Mbipụta nke aluminom: Aluminium Dibond prints are prints on metal with an outstanding effect of depth. The white and bright parts of the original work of art shimmer with a silky gloss but without any glare. The colors are luminous, the details of the print appear crisp and clear.
  • Mpempe akwụkwọ ederede (akwa akwa akwa): A poster is a UV printed flat canvas paper with a nice surface texture. Please bear in mind, that depending on the size of the poster we add a white margin 2 - 6cm round about the print, which facilitates the framing with your custom frame.
  • Mbipụta kanvas: A canvas print, not to be confused with an artwork painted on a canvas, is a digital copy applied directly on cotton canvas fabric. A canvas generates a charming and pleasing impression. The great advantage of canvas prints is that they are relatively low in weight, which implies that it is easy and straightforward to hang up the Canvas print without the use of extra wall-mounts. A canvas print is suitable for any type of wall.
  • Mbipụta iko acrylic na-egbuke egbuke (nke nwere ezigbo mkpuchi iko n'elu): A glossy acrylic glass print, often referred to as a UV print on plexiglass, transforms your favorite original work of art into beautiful décor. Furthermore, the acrylic glass print offers a great alternative to canvas or dibond fine art prints. Your work of art is being printed with modern UV direct print technology. The great advantage of a plexiglass print is that contrasts as well as painting details will be more recognizeable due to the subtle gradation of the picture.
