In December of 1911 Lovis Corinth suffered a stroke of him - as he himself said - near death brought. Though certainly the extravagant lifestyle of the artist was one of the causes of the disease, they found him yet complete surprise. In January, he was elected as the new President of the Berlin Secession. He completed this year over sixty oil paintings and participated in several exhibitions. his wife Charlotte Also this picture was taken in the Berlin apartment in the Klopstockstraße in 1911. Charlotte had once endeavored after marrying Corinth in 1903 to build a budget, that is to equip adequate housing (which they obtained in 1904) and service personnel deal, so Corinth could also fulfill its social obligations in-house. Also, the apartment was bourgeois representative decorated with plants, paintings and other art objects. The picture seems to have originated in one of the bay windows of the apartment, because only here two windows side by side went straight to the Klopstockstraße. Here, Charlotte taught a reading space as in a winter garden - surrounded by plants, flower vases and a goldfish pool including splashing fountain. In the background a statuette and an image perfect the device on the wall. Charlotte sits on a patterned, bright chaise longue, so that the light falls through the curtains not completely hidden window on her book. Although the picture seems to be painted quickly, can clearly be seen on closer inspection, how carefully Corinth about put the white lights on the leaves as he caught the shimmer of gold fish in many different colors and switched between wide and fine brushes to all surfaces to meet and materials. In this impressionist manner, he managed to capture the atmosphere and the light of the moment, who had inspired him to paint. In her memoirs Charlotte left her husband to the emergence of the image say: 'It is in fact an almost irritating thing like you and it all looks. I would like to go at this picture in the details, do it well. ' And even she added: 'He painted four days the picture. He took his time, because, as he said, found the details so attractive. ' Domestic scenes are found in Corinth's work from the time of his marriage until his death. Charlotte, who was the center of these representations, however, was it for a variety of genres model since she had visited in 1901 as the first student's painting school (then in Klopstockstraße 52). Although it is unmistakable in every picture, managed Corinth but to distinguish the private photos of his wife from those where Charlotte was simple model. For example, the portrait of his standing very pregnant woman affected by their candid views and presentation of a tired pause trusting in his favor. He also holds the picture 'Morning Sun' established (1910) a lovely moment with quick brush strokes, as if to the memory of that sight of his wife just woke secure forever.
