A Dutch-born painter who settled in the great French trading center of Lyon, Corneille de Lyon specialized in vivid, small-scale portraits. His sitters were drawn from court circles and from the upper bourgeoisie of merchants and officials; Corneille invariably depicted them against a relatively flat, jewel-toned background that permitted the viewer to focus on the acutely observed features. The body typically appears small in relation to the head, yet through silhouette and a few telling details of dress, Corneille was able to evoke the demeanor of his subjects- in this case of this unknown young man, a restrained elegance.

Nkwupụta iwu: We do all that we can in order to describe our art products as clearly as it is possible and to showcase them visually. At the same time, the colors of the printing material, as well as the printing can differ marginally from the image on the monitor. Depending on your settings of your screen and the nature of the surface, colors might not be printed as exactly as the digital version shown here. Given that all fine art prints are processed and printed manually, there may as well be slight variations in the motif's size and exact position.
