The application of the English admiral ship 'Royal Charles' captured during the raid on Chatham, june 1667. The ship is on shore, in the foreground a rowing boat, right in the distance a warship of the Admiralty of the Maze. Left in the distance you can see the entrance to the harbor of Hellevoetsluis. In the lower left corner is a piece of paper painted with inscription which describes the history of the ship and the painting is dedicated to Cornelis de Witt, who together with De Ruyter undertook the trip to Chatham.
